The group, identifying itself as "Anarchist Fight Against Corruption," asserted that the attack was a direct response to recent revelations concerning alleged campaign finance irregularities involving President Nikos Christodoulides and his close associates. A video documenting the incident subsequently surfaced on social media platforms, sparking widespread condemnation from political figures and authorities.
The vandalism, which saw the office’s main door significantly damaged, has been interpreted by the perpetrators as a protest against what they termed "technocratic authoritarianism and capitalist interests." Their statement, disseminated via the anarchist website athens.indymedia.org, further implicated the social support body chaired by the First Lady, Philippa Karsera Christodoulides, alleging its potential misuse to facilitate preferential access for private donors to governmental circles. The group framed their actions within a wider critique of entrenched power structures, systemic corruption, and the perceived influence of patriarchal family models on the state’s operational mechanisms and economic policies.
The timing of the attack is particularly noteworthy, occurring shortly after the emergence of a video pertaining to alleged campaign finance lawbreaking. This incident followed closely on the heels of the resignation of Charalambos Charalambous, who had previously served as the President's chief of staff, on the preceding Monday. Marinos Cleanthous, vice president of DIPA, confirmed that the party had officially reported the matter to the Cyprus Police, initiating a formal investigation into the incident.
In the wake of the attack, both DIPA and the government swiftly issued statements denouncing the act. DIPA articulated that “Democracy is not blackmailed, terrorised or silenced.
