About Lingua-News

What is Lingua-News Cyprus?

Lingua-News Cyprus is a language learning platform that transforms real Cyprus news into educational content. We adapt current events into articles at different difficulty levels (CEFR A1-C2), helping you learn English, Greek, Turkish, or Russian through relevant, local content.

Is it free to use?

Yes! Lingua-News Cyprus is currently free to use. We may introduce premium features in the future, but our core news content will remain accessible to all learners.

How often is the content updated?

We update our content daily with fresh news from Cyprus. New stories are typically available each morning, covering the previous day's most important events.

CEFR Levels

What are CEFR levels?

CEFR stands for the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. It's an international standard for measuring language ability:

  • A1 (Beginner): Basic phrases, simple present tense
  • A2 (Elementary): Simple sentences, everyday vocabulary
  • B1 (Intermediate): Connected text, main points of clear speech
  • B2 (Upper-Intermediate): Complex texts, fluent conversation
  • C1 (Advanced): Demanding texts, nuanced expression
  • C2 (Proficient): Near-native understanding and expression

How do I know which level to choose?

Start with B1 or B2 if you're unsure. Try reading a few articles – if they're too easy and you understand everything, move up a level. If you're struggling with most words, move down a level. You can switch between levels anytime!

Why does the same story look different at each level?

Each level uses different vocabulary and grammar structures. A story at A2 level uses simpler words and shorter sentences, while the same story at C1 uses advanced vocabulary and complex structures. The core facts remain the same!

Languages

Which languages are available?

We currently offer content in four languages that reflect Cyprus's multicultural community:

  • English – International language widely spoken in Cyprus
  • Greek (Ελληνικά) – Official language of the Republic of Cyprus
  • Turkish (Türkçe) – Spoken in Northern Cyprus
  • Russian (Русский) – Large Russian-speaking community in Cyprus

Are all stories available in all languages?

We aim to provide all stories in all languages, but availability may vary. English content is typically the most complete, with other languages following. Check back regularly as we're constantly expanding our coverage.

Using the Site
