A brazen arson attack in Limassol has resulted in the destruction of multiple luxury vehicles valued at over €1.5 million, an incident authorities are investigating for potential links to the recent murder of football agent Stavros Demosthenous. The meticulously planned assault occurred shortly before midnight on Thursday in a private, fenced parking lot in the Mouttagiaka area, sending a plume of black smoke into the night sky and intensifying concerns about organized criminal activity in the city. According to official statements from Assistant Police Director Lefteris Kyriakou, the perpetrator, clad in black and wearing a hood, gained entry to the compound and doused the high-end cars in a flammable liquid, believed to be petrol. The act was interrupted by a private security guard, who noticed the intruder. "He tried to approach, but there was an ignition with the result that the perpetrator fled," Kyriakou stated, confirming that four luxury vehicles were "completely destroyed." The incinerated models included a Lamborghini Revuelto, a Mercedes Benz G63, a Porsche 911, and a Tesla Model X, with their collective worth estimated to be between €1.5 and €2 million. The investigation has been thrust into the spotlight due to the identity of one of the victims. Two of the torched vehicles were registered to a 40-year-old foreign businessman known to be a close associate of Demosthenous, who was gunned down on October 17th. This connection has become a primary, though unconfirmed, line of inquiry for police. While Kyriakou emphasized that "all possible motives are open," the spectre of the unsolved murder looms large over the case, with media speculation rife that the arson was intended as a stark warning. The main incident was followed hours later by a separate car fire targeting a 20-year-old's vehicle in another part of Limassol, prompting investigators to examine a potential connection. With crucial CCTV footage in hand and forensic evidence under analysis, the police probe is intensifying. The force now faces the dual challenge of apprehending a bold arsonist and determining whether this million-euro fire signals a dangerous new chapter in the city's ongoing underworld conflicts.
