**TERSEFANOU, CYPRUS** – Early Sunday morning, a tranquil dawn in the village of Tersefanou was shattered by a violent intrusion, leaving a 40-year-old man in critical condition with severe injuries, including multiple amputations. Authorities have apprehended a 33-year-old suspect, who now faces charges of attempted murder and death threats following the harrowing incident that unfolded within a local apartment.
The alarming events transpired around 7:00 AM, when the arrested individual allegedly gained access to a residence via an unsecured balcony door. Once inside, the assailant reportedly proceeded to the kitchen, where he procured a meat cleaver. According to preliminary reports, the suspect then unleashed a brutal assault on the 40-year-old resident, striking him repeatedly with the formidable kitchen implement. The victim sustained grievous wounds, necessitating immediate medical attention.
In the ensuing chaos, a 46-year-old female resident, also present in the apartment, was allegedly subjected to threats by the perpetrator. Demonstrating remarkable presence of mind amidst the terror, she managed to evade the attacker and was subsequently discovered by responding police officers in the building's parking area.
The severity of the victim's injuries necessitated his transfer from Larnaca General Hospital to the more specialised facilities of Nicosia General Hospital, where medical staff are working to stabilise his condition. His injuries include the complete amputation of his left thumb, partial amputations of his right thumb and index finger, alongside extensive lacerations to his hands, head, and back.
Larnaca Police, with the support of Kiti Police Station, swiftly initiated a manhunt for the assailant.
