Disturbing Incidents Cast Shadow Over Limassol's Evening

Limassol experienced a night of significant disquiet yesterday as a series of alarming violent incidents and unfortunate accidents unfolded across the city. These events have resulted in multiple individuals sustaining serious injuries, necessitating extensive police investigations. The occurrences, ranging from a brutal stabbing in a busy commercial area to a hit-and-run involving a young child, highlight a concerning escalation in criminal activity and a blatant disregard for public safety.

The most serious incident transpired on Wednesday evening, around 7:00 PM, within the bustling Anexartisias shopping district. Investigators from Limassol CID are diligently working to reconstruct the events leading to a 36-year-old man being critically wounded outside a local coffee establishment. Preliminary reports suggest the victim was attacked by three assailants. While two attackers reportedly utilised Taser-like stun devices, a third individual inflicted a stab wound to the victim’s left shoulder blade with a sharp object. The motive behind this audacious assault remains unclear, and authorities have issued an arrest warrant for a 30-year-old foreign national, identified as a barbershop owner, whilst continuing their efforts to apprehend the other perpetrators.

Further exacerbating the city’s distress, a drunk driving incident on Sunday afternoon led to a pedestrian sustaining severe injuries. Approximately 3:00 PM, a 49-year-old Greek Cypriot man, driving under the influence of alcohol, collided with a 47-year-old foreign national on Misiaouli and Kavazoglou Street. Subsequent breathalyser tests revealed the driver’s alcohol level to be an alarming 93 mg%, considerably exceeding the legal limit of 22 mg%. The injured pedestrian has been hospitalised with fractured ribs. The driver was apprehended by traffic officers at the scene.

Compounding the public's concern, a young child became the victim of a hit-and-run incident on Saturday evening. Around 7:30 PM, an unidentified individual operating an electric scooter collided with a two-year-old girl on the Poseidonos Avenue coastal walkway. Although the child sustained only minor injuries and was transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure, the scooter rider callously fled the scene. Police are actively seeking to identify and locate the individual responsible for this reckless behaviour. The combination of these violent acts has understandably heightened community concerns regarding public safety. Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in the ongoing investigations.
