Magwenya explained that the emphasis is on Russia because information suggests the men were "bungled into the Russian military forces." Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, daughter of former South African president Jacob Zuma, is implicated in these allegations. She is accused of informing prospective recruits they were being deployed for bodyguard training or a personal development program.
The fallout has extended into legal channels, with Nkosazana Zuma-Mncube, another daughter of Jacob Zuma, reportedly filing a police report. This report implicates Zuma-Sambudla and two others in the recruitment scheme. Conversely, Zuma-Sambudla has also lodged a complaint, naming Blessing Khoza as involved in deceptive practices.
The plight of these stranded men has galvanized their families and friends. On December 5th, a protest was staged outside Durban city hall, with at least thirteen relatives demanding the swift return of their loved ones.
