An estimated one million individuals, forced to seek refuge in tents and rudimentary structures, are experiencing these hardships. These temporary homes, often built in hastily designated areas, offer minimal protection from the elements. Reports indicate that water levels reached up to 15 centimetres in some locations. This flooding rendered over 40 emergency shelters unusable, forcing families to endure harrowing experiences within their temporary dwellings.

He observed people attempting to remove water with buckets, illustrating the immediate aftermath of the storm. He further highlighted the intensity of the weather, noting significant water accumulation and powerful winds. This severe weather has not only submerged belongings but has also tragically resulted in loss of life. Fatalities have been reported due to hypothermia, including an infant, and at least eleven other individuals died in building collapses caused by the adverse conditions.

While UN agencies like Unicef are intensifying efforts to deliver essential supplies, the immense need and logistical difficulties present significant obstacles. The insufficient volume of aid reaching the territory remains a persistent concern. They are now facing further relocation to escape the persistent flooding.
The immediate consequences of this extreme weather event are severe. Constant dampness and freezing temperatures significantly increase the risk of hypothermia and the spread of infectious diseases. Young children are especially vulnerable when wearing wet clothing. The destruction of shelters and the loss of personal items represent another devastating blow to families already stripped of their homes and livelihoods.
