Following the declaration of brain death in a 47-year-old patient at Near East University Hospital, a swift and meticulously organised organ donation process was initiated with the family's consent. Medical teams, collaborating closely with Turkey's National Coordination Center and the TRNC Organ Transplant Coordination Board, successfully retrieved vital organs.
Yesterday, a life-saving heart transplant was performed on a 29-year-old male patient who had been awaiting a suitable donor. Subsequently, the deceased donor's kidneys were successfully transplanted into two male recipients, aged 43 and 62. These kidney transplantations, each lasting several hours, have been reported as successful, with all recipients in stable condition. While the liver was transported to Turkey for transplantation, these domestic procedures clearly showcase the growing expertise of TRNC medical professionals and its advanced facilities.
