US Wants Greenland, Denmark Says No

President Donald Trump wants to buy Greenland. This has caused problems with Denmark. Greenland is a self-governing part of Denmark. A recent meeting showed they disagree. The future of Greenland is being watched by many countries.

President Trump thinks the United States needs Greenland. He said it is important for their security. This is not a new idea. He talked about it before. US officials met with Danish and Greenlandic officials. However, the US position did not change. Danish officials did not expect the US president to change his mind.

Greenland and Denmark do not want to sell Greenland. For Greenland, it is about their right to rule themselves. The Prime Minister of Greenland said he would choose Denmark. This shows they are committed to their government.

The Danish Foreign Minister said the US wants to "conquer" Greenland. This shows a big difference in what they think. Both countries know the Arctic is important. Russia and China are also active there. However, their plans are different. Denmark rejected the idea that Greenland might join Russia or China.

They will create a working group. This group will talk about Greenland's future security. It will also discuss Arctic strategy. This will happen within set rules. Denmark is also increasing its military in the Arctic. They want more NATO troops there. This shows they want to be secure. It also shows they will protect their interests. This disagreement could affect relations between the US and Europe.
