Cyprus Church Plans Big Changes

The Church of Cyprus has decided to change its main rules. This decision was made on Wednesday. The goal is to make the church's work more modern. The old rules had some unclear parts. These made it hard to follow church law. A special group will now write new rules. This group has important church members and lawyers. They will work on this for the next few months.

There are a few reasons for these changes. Recently, there were disagreements. Bishop Tychikos of Paphos and Archbishop Georgios had arguments. These showed that the church's rules needed to be clearer. Because of this, the Archbishop will continue to manage the Paphos bishopric. This is a temporary step. It will give time to write and approve the new rules.

The church is also looking at how bishops are chosen. The current system is being reviewed. They might allow the Holy Synod to choose bishops directly. This would be a new way of doing things. It could change the church's leadership.

In other news, the church spoke about two monks. Monks Nektarios and Porfyrios face serious charges. They are accused of money laundering and fraud. The Chief Secretary said there will be "no pardon" for them. This means they will not be forgiven. They were already removed from the church. Now, they will face criminal court.

Also, the church has made a change for weddings. Weddings can now happen during the Christmas advent. This is until December 12th. This gives people more choices for their wedding day. The church will also write new songs about the Cyprus problem. These changes show the church is trying to adapt. It wants to stay strong and relevant.
