Cyprus Improves Justice System

Cyprus is making big changes to its justice system. The main goal is to fight crime and make people safer. The Justice Minister, Constantinos Fytiris, will have more police on the roads. This will happen more at night. He calls this "boots on the streets." This plan will help citizens feel more secure. It will also stop crime before it happens.

These reforms also look at prisons. The current Central Prisons are very old, from 1890. They have problems with things like phones inside. Therefore, a new modern prison is planned. A location has been found. However, it is not public yet. Local meetings will happen soon. Building the new prison will take about four years.

New leaders are also starting in the justice sector. George Savvides is the new Attorney General. Savvas Angelides is his Deputy. They were appointed quickly after the last Attorney General resigned. Their arrival is important. It will help people trust the justice system again. President Nicos Anastasiades said these roles need honest and smart people. They must protect people's rights.

The new leaders must deal with difficult criminal groups. They also need to make the legal system work faster. There are many old cases waiting to be solved. The President wants these cases finished quickly. A fast justice system helps people trust the law. More police and a new prison show Cyprus is serious about safety. These actions will help prevent crime. They will make people feel safer on the island.
