Trump Wants Greenland Again, Denmark Says No

The Arctic is important now. Former US President Donald Trump wants to buy Greenland. Denmark and the European Union do not agree. This shows Greenland is a strategic place with resources. It also shows Greenland is a self-governing territory.

Greenland is part of Denmark. Many countries are interested in Greenland. Climate change makes the Arctic more important. Ice is melting, and new shipping routes are opening. Countries want to find minerals and control travel. Trump's idea to buy Greenland is not new. Denmark's Prime Minister called it "absurd."

Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said, "We believe in international law." She also said people have the right to choose their future. The European Commission President agreed. She said, "Cooperation is stronger than confrontation." These ideas support Greenland's rights.

The US already has a military base in Greenland. This base is called Thule Air Base. A treaty allows the US to have many bases there. However, this is not the same as buying the land. Denmark rejects this idea.

The Arctic is a place of competition. Russia and China are increasing their influence there. This makes the US think more about strategy. Leaders will meet soon in Washington, DC. They will talk about security and working together in the Arctic.

Denmark and its allies are united. They support Greenland's independence. Countries like Sweden and Germany agree with Denmark. They want to follow international rules. Greenland's future must be decided by its people. This is more important than buying land. The Arctic has challenges and opportunities. Greenland's status is key to its future.
