Cyprus Issues Yellow Weather Warning for Heavy Rain

Cyprus is facing bad weather. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow weather warning. This warning is for Sunday evening and Monday evening. It warns about heavy rain and thunderstorms. The Cyprus Police have also given advice. They say driving can be dangerous on the Nicosia-Limassol highway. There is already a lot of water on this road.

Heavy rain is happening near Kornos and Kofinou. This is on the Nicosia-Limassol road. Driving is very difficult for people. Drivers cannot see well. They can also lose control of their cars on wet roads. Drivers must be very careful. They need to drive much slower. A low-pressure system is causing this bad weather. It is bringing a lot of moisture.

The weather will get worse overnight Sunday. Rain and thunderstorms are expected all day Monday. The rain could be very heavy. It might reach 35 to 55 millimetres per hour. Coastal and mountain areas could get more than 55 millimetres of rain in 24 hours. Some storms might also bring hail. This makes the weather even more dangerous.

Snow is expected in the Troodos mountains. This will be in the higher areas. Coastal areas will also have strong winds. The seas will be rough. Winds will be strong on Monday.

A cold air mass will arrive on Monday. Temperatures will drop. Inland areas will have a high of about 14°C. Tuesday will be even colder. Temperatures will be lower than usual. Frost might happen in sheltered mountain areas.

Authorities ask people to be very careful. Drivers should slow down. They should also keep more space between cars. Heavy rain, poor visibility, and wet roads are dangerous. It is important to follow safety advice.
