Larnaca Project Fights Floods

A big project is happening in Larnaca's Kamares area. It will help stop floods. The project should finish by 2027. Many groups are working together. These include the Larnaca district government and local councils. It will help many people living there.

Bad floods in 2014 caused a lot of damage. This showed that better flood control was needed. The head of the Larnaca district government said it is very important. He believes it will solve the flood problems. However, he also said extreme weather is hard to predict.

The project is fixing the Kamares flood channel. They are making it wider and deeper. This will hold more water. They are also connecting other water pipes. This will move rainwater away from homes.

Work is happening now on Dryadon Street. They are building a new channel for water. Old channels are also being changed. This will help water drain faster. It will reduce the risk of sudden floods.

The project costs about €7 million. Later, they plan to help the Vergina area too. This area also has flood problems. The Larnaca authorities want money from the government for this. The work is going fast. It might finish before 2027. This will make residents feel safer.
