Investigation Reveals Problems in Cyprus Holiday Jobs

A recent TV show has shown bad things happening in Ayia Napa, Cyprus. A journalist named Tir Dhondy made a film about it. The film shows sexual harassment and bad living places for young workers. Some workers are only sixteen years old. Companies seem to use them for profit.

The journalist pretended to be a hairdresser for her work. She found out that many workers heard rude comments. Some were asked for sexual favours. A strip bar owner said, "If I want to see your tts, I’ll ask." This shows no respect. A manager talked about jobs and sexual favours. This is a serious problem.

The workers also had very bad living conditions. Their homes were dirty and unsafe. There was mould and insects. They did not have enough water. Many people slept in small rooms. These places were not good for anyone.

Companies offer holiday job packages. These packages can cost money. They promise fun and money. However, they seem to take advantage of young workers. Two workers, Isobel and Carmen, had bad experiences. Tourists also saw problems.

This film shows how young people can be exploited. It is important to protect these workers. The problems in Ayia Napa need attention. We need to make sure workers are safe and treated well.
