Famagusta Gate Becomes Cultural Hub

Famagusta Gate in Nicosia is now a centre for cultural events. This happens at a good time. Cyprus will soon lead the Council of the European Union. The old building was repaired. Now it is ready to be a top place for culture. It will show Cyprus's history to many people.

The Ministry of Culture started this project. It is a big investment. They want to protect Nicosia's history. Deputy Culture Minister Vasiliki Kassianidou spoke about it. She said, "Showing Nicosia's culture is important." This is because the city will be noticed by Europe. The gate will honor history and tell Cyprus's story.

Famagusta Gate closed in 2018. Flooding caused a lot of damage. A big repair project started in 2019. Workers fixed stone and wood parts. The work finished in 2023. The gate looks like it did before. It is also ready for today's use.

The project also added new things. There is new lighting and sound. Air conditioning was installed. Visitor facilities are better. These changes make the gate a modern place. The cost was almost €1 million. This shows they care about the building. It will be part of Nicosia again.

The EU presidency is a chance for Famagusta Gate. Many visitors will come to Cyprus. The gate will host many cultural activities. People will learn about Cyprus's history. They will see its art. This will help Cyprus during its presidency. The gate's revival will help Cyprus's culture.
