Cyprus Warned of Strong Winds and Storms

Cyprus will have bad weather on Friday, January 9, 2026. Strong winds and thunderstorms are coming. The weather department has given a yellow warning. This means there could be problems. The main worry is the very strong winds.

A cold air mass is causing this change. Strong winds are expected from Friday morning. They will blow from the south-west and north-west. The winds will be moderate to strong. However, some gusts will be very strong. These could be as strong as a storm.

The strong winds will affect the whole island. Mountain areas and northern parts will be hit the hardest early on Friday. Rain will start in the west and north. Then it will spread to other areas by Friday night. There may be thunderstorms, especially in the north-west. Snow is also expected on the highest mountains.

The seas around Cyprus will also be rough. The western and northern coasts will have the roughest seas. This is because of the strong winds.

The bad weather will continue after Friday. Saturday, Sunday, and Monday will be cloudy. There will be some rain. Thunderstorms are still possible. Hail and snow may fall on the mountains. Temperatures will be around 15 degrees Celsius inland. They will get a little warmer on Saturday and Sunday. Then they will cool down a bit on Monday.
