US Takes Control of Venezuelan Oil

The United States has taken control of Venezuela's oil. This happened after a military action. Former President Nicolás Maduro and his wife were arrested in New York. President Donald Trump announced a new plan for Venezuelan energy on January 3, 2026. The plan puts American interests first.

The US government said this action was needed. They accused the former Maduro government of crimes. These included drug trafficking and terrorism. This changes South America's situation. Vice President JD Vance said the US now controls Venezuela's energy. He said the US decides who can buy the oil. "You’re allowed to sell the oil so long as you serve America’s national interest," Vance said. All ships must follow US rules for oil transport.

Before this, President Trump had an agreement. Venezuela would send 30 to 50 million barrels of oil to the US. Then, ships with oil were seized. This showed the US was serious. Venezuela will use the money from oil sales to buy US goods. This includes food, medicine, and building materials. This helps American businesses.

The US State Department sent a message on January 5. It said, "This is our hemisphere." This is a big change in US foreign policy. Many believe this is to stop China's power. It also protects oil interests. US oil companies are also working in Guyana. This shows the US wants more control in the region.

Venezuela's future is now tied to the US. Its former leaders are in jail. The US will now manage all oil sales. This gives the US great power over another country's resources. It raises questions about international law. The US calls this a win for security and the economy. It is a very important moment.
