Cyprus Film Industry Grows Strong

The film industry in Cyprus is growing quickly. This is shown by films shown at international festivals. The government expects a good year for movies. Local films are doing well around the world. Cyprus is also working with other countries on films. This means Cypriot movies can now compete with films from bigger countries. They are also interesting to audiences everywhere.

Next year will be very important for Cyprus cinema. Two new films will be shown at big international festivals in 2026. Myrsini Aristidou's film *Hold Onto Me* will be at the Sundance Film Festival. Also, Minos Papas' film *Motherwitch* will be shown at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. These selections prove that Cypriot films are good and have interesting stories.

A film made with Cyprus and Germany, *All That’s Left of You*, has been nominated for an Oscar. The Cyprus government helped with this film. AMP Filmworks in Cyprus was the production company. Producers Marios Piperides and Janine Teerling worked on it. Famous actors Mark Ruffalo and Javier Bardem were also involved. This film will premiere at Sundance in 2025. It shows Cyprus can make important international films.

A short film from Cyprus, *The Weaver*, has also won awards. This animated film won Best Animation Film in Jordan. It was also chosen for a festival in Brussels. The film has been shown at festivals in Spain and Slovenia. The judges said *The Weaver* shows "important truths." It makes people think about people who want justice. This shows Cypriot films are relevant and artistic.

The government is happy about these successes. They said, "Cypriot creators competed with big countries. They won awards and got recognition." More countries are working together on films with Cyprus. This gives Cyprus more attention and respect in the film world. Films like *All That’s Left of You* and *The Weaver* show Cyprus can tell great stories. It is becoming an important place for good filmmaking.
