Guinea Elects Former Leader; Middle East Tensions Rise

Guinea's election results are official. Mamady Doumbouya, the former junta leader, won the presidential vote. This is a surprise because he promised to return power to civilians. He won with 86.72% of the votes. The election turnout was 80.95%.

This result means the military government will stay in power. Doumbouya took control in September 2021. His decision to run for president goes against his earlier promises. Some opposition groups called the election a "charade." They said many people did not vote. Some important opposition leaders could not participate.

Meanwhile, the Middle East is also unstable. The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia have a disagreement. It is about the future of Yemen. This could cause more fighting in the country. Israeli military operations in Gaza have also continued. A ceasefire was in place, but it is fragile.

The United Arab Emirates supports a group called the Southern Transitional Council in Yemen. This group wants southern Yemen to be independent. This conflicts with Saudi Arabia's interests. Saudi Arabia has responded with airstrikes. They say they will protect their national security.

The conflict in Gaza is also very serious. Israeli military actions have continued. This has caused many deaths and damage. Over 71,000 Palestinians have died. More than 171,000 have been injured. The past month saw hundreds of deaths. Israeli forces say they target military areas. However, buildings and roads have been destroyed. This makes it hard to get help. The situation in Gaza is a humanitarian crisis.
