New Legal Leaders Appointed in Cyprus

Cyprus has new leaders for its legal system. George Savvides is the new Attorney General. Savvas Angelides is the new Deputy Attorney General. These appointments happened sooner than expected. They are important for the country's laws. The goal is to fix problems and rebuild trust in the courts.

The old Attorney General, Costas Clerides, resigned suddenly. His term was supposed to end in July. President Nicos Anastasiades chose the new leaders. He looked for people with strong morals and good judgment. They also needed a lot of legal knowledge and experience.

President Anastasiades spoke at the ceremony. He told the new officials to do their jobs carefully. They must protect important legal values. This includes fair trials and good government. They must also prevent unfair actions. The aim is a faster and better legal system.

Both Savvides and Angelides have worked in government before. Savvides was the Minister of Justice. He knows the legal system well. Angelides was the Minister of Defence. This experience will help them manage their new roles. They can bring useful ideas for change.

People hope the new leaders will make the legal service more independent. They also expect it to work more efficiently. The public wants a justice system that works quickly. It should also make people trust the courts again. The President said the new officials are independent. No one can stop them from doing their work. Savvides and Angelides must now show they can protect justice for everyone.
