The strong friendship between Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates is facing problems. These two countries have worked together for many years. However, the conflict in Yemen has made their disagreements much bigger. Saudi Arabia says the UAE has done things that are dangerous for Saudi security. This shows that the two Gulf nations disagree about Yemen's future.
The problem seems to come from different ideas about Yemen's politics. Especially, they disagree about the Southern Transitional Council (STC). The UAE has supported the STC for a long time. The STC wants South Yemen to be independent again. Saudi Arabia sees this support as a threat to its own safety. The UAE's role in Yemen has changed. Abu Dhabi now has its own business and political goals.
Things became very serious recently. Saudi forces attacked vehicles near Mukalla port in Yemen. Saudi Arabia said these vehicles were going to the STC. They also said the vehicles came from an Emirati port. This happened after Saudi Arabia told the UAE to leave some parts of southern Yemen. The UAE has started to leave these areas. This shows Saudi Arabia's demands are important.
This disagreement within the group fighting the Houthis is bad for Yemen. The Yemeni people have suffered a lot. If the STC declares an independent South Yemen, it could cause more fighting. Yemen's official government, the Presidential Leadership Council, is now in the middle of this fight.
The problems between Saudi Arabia and the UAE could affect other regions too. Experts worry the disagreement might spread to conflicts in Sudan and the Horn of Africa. What was once a united group is now a place for bigger competition. Saudi Arabia has clearly stated its position. It will protect its national security.
