US Increases Pressure on Venezuela

The United States is trying harder to pressure Nicolás Maduro's government. They are using many methods. These include tough sanctions, a stronger naval blockade, and secret operations. This plan aims to isolate Venezuela. It also wants to weaken Maduro's power. This has already affected global oil markets. It shows a possible change in US foreign policy.

The US Treasury has targeted four companies. They are accused of moving Venezuelan oil. They also allegedly avoided current sanctions. This action stops Venezuela from earning money from oil. The US says this money funds "destabilising operations." President Trump said US forces attacked a facility in Venezuela. This could mean more action than just at sea.

The CIA has also used drones. They reportedly attacked port areas. These areas are thought to be used by the Tren de Aragua gang. This group is linked to illegal activities. The US deployed a naval fleet in August. This fleet is enforcing a "total blockade." It stops sanctioned oil tankers. Some ships were stopped. Others were chased. This shows the US wants to stop Venezuela's oil exports.

The US also allowed the CIA to do secret operations. This was confirmed in October. The US says this is to stop drug trafficking. They also mention "narco-terrorism" by Maduro's government. US officials worry about drugs coming into the US. They are also concerned about prisoners being released.

These actions have consequences. More uncertainty about oil supply has raised oil prices. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) prices have gone up. Experts say the US is taking a strong approach to Venezuelan oil. This time of tension is like a "shadow war." Some people are dying. This is because of attacks on boats. However, it is unclear if these actions will work. The future effects are still being discussed.
