Cyprus Faces Bad Weather Warning

Cyprus has unpredictable weather right now. The weather office has given a yellow warning. This means there will be lots of rain. There could also be thunderstorms and strong winds. The warning starts Tuesday and ends Wednesday evening. It says there will be heavy rain. Sometimes, hail might fall with the storms. The highest mountains in Troodos may get snow.

A low-pressure system is causing this bad weather. Strong winds are also part of the problem. These weather conditions will continue. The storms are expected until New Year's Eve evening. After that, the storms will become less strong. They will mainly be in the mountains on New Year's Day.

A weather officer, Panagiotis Linggis, explained the weather. He said people should expect rain, storms, and very strong winds. The winds will be strong, around force six or seven. This could cause problems. The sea will be rough and wavy. This may affect boats.

The worst weather is expected near the coast and in the mountains. On New Year's Eve evening, storms may be in the west and north. Strong winds will also be in these areas. Some places might get over 55 millimetres of rain. This is in a 24-hour period.

Temperatures will change next. They will drop on Friday. Then, they will rise a lot by Sunday. Wind will be the main weather on New Year's Day. It will not be rain. Mr. Linggis said the wind is the main thing for New Year's Day. No more rain is expected until Sunday. Easterly winds, called Levantes, will return Saturday and Sunday. Clouds will start to form Saturday afternoon. This means the weather will change again.
