This happened in the UN-patrolled buffer zone. Over twenty Turkish people were involved. This has made farmers worry more about their land. The UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) is investigating.

The problem started when farmers Gavriel and Yerolemos Yerolemou were working. Their land is near a Turkish military base. Farmers said a Turkish soldier tried to take their car keys. Then, Turkish soldiers and police threw stones. They also pushed the farmers. One farmer said someone grabbed his throat.

A police officer tried to get on a tractor. He wanted to arrest a farmer. The farmer drove away quickly. Turkish forces shouted in Turkish and English. UNFICYP peacekeepers arrived. They saw what was happening. They are now investigating the whole event.

The UN force is talking to both sides. They want to reduce the tension. The President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, was angry. He called the Turkish actions "pirate acts."

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is also working on this. They want to know the exact borders for farmers. This is important for land near the buffer zone. The farmers are very scared now. They worry about working their land.

Gavriel Yerolemou said, "They threw stones. They grabbed my throat and tried to arrest us." His brother, Yerolemos Yerolemou, was confused. He said, "We were just working. Why did they do that?" The farmers are waiting for clear answers. This event shows how fragile peace is in Cyprus. The UN investigation is important. It will help understand what happened.
