New Legal Leaders for Cyprus

Cyprus has new top legal officials. George Savvides is the new Attorney General. Savvas Angelides is the new Deputy Attorney General. These appointments happened early. The country wants to make its laws better. They also want people to trust the justice system more.

The old Attorney General, Costas Clerides, left his job. His term was ending soon. President Nicos Anastasiades introduced the new leaders. He said honesty and good character are very important. He also said they need strong legal knowledge. Their jobs are very difficult.

President Anastasiades told them to protect important ideas. They must treat everyone fairly. They should also help the government work well. They need to be dignified. They must protect people from bad power. The President said, "You must protect these ideas."

Savvides was the Justice Minister. Angelides was the Defence Minister. This shows they have good management skills. They can make changes. They can fix problems in the legal system. A main goal is to finish old court cases faster.

The President said they are independent. He stated, "You are now independent." He also said, "No one can interfere with your work." This means the Attorney General can work fairly. They will not have outside pressure. This is important for fair cases.

Savvides and Angelides will start a new time for Cyprus law. They should make things more open. They will be judged on building trust. They will also be judged on making justice better. They must face problems. They must make sure the law is fair for everyone.
