Limassol is experiencing a lot of trouble. It seems to be because of a fight between gangs. This has caused several violent attacks in the city. Recently, a businessman was badly hurt. Then, a popular barbershop was destroyed. These events show more organised crime is happening. Police have increased their presence to stop more violence. They want to find the people involved.
The problems started on Saturday, December 20th. A 36-year-old businessman was attacked at about 7:00 pm. Three unknown men used electric shock devices. They hurt the businessman with knives. He is in the hospital now. His condition is serious but stable.
Soon after, on Monday, January 1st, another attack happened. Around 1:40 am, a barbershop was damaged. Two people in masks threw rocks at the shop's windows. They broke the glass and went inside. Assistant Police Chief Lefteris Kyriakou thinks this attack is linked to the stabbing. The timing is very close.
Police are looking at video cameras. They are also collecting evidence to find the attackers. The Limassol Criminal Investigation Department is leading the search. They want to find Mohamad Tleis, a 30-year-old man. He is wanted for the barbershop vandalism. Police worry he might try to leave Cyprus.
This fight is thought to be about illegal drugs and money demands. The barbershop had problems before. It was involved in a shooting in 2020. This shows it was already a risky place.
Police Chief Kyriakou said, "We have more police in the area." This is to stop more violence. Extra security guards are also protecting places that might be targets. People in Limassol are worried. The police are working hard to stop this cycle of violence.
