Ceasefire Agreed in Aleppo After Fighting

A ceasefire has been agreed in Aleppo. This happened after fighting between Syrian government forces and the SDF. The agreement was made on Monday. It aims to stop the growing problems. These problems are because the SDF must join the Syrian army soon. Fighting happened in two neighbourhoods. Sadly, two civilians died. Others were hurt.

The fighting started because of a plan. The SDF must join the Syrian army by March 2025. This plan was signed a while ago. However, not much progress has been made. This has caused worry and distrust. The Turkish Foreign Minister visited the area. He said he did not think the SDF would keep their promise.

Experts think that the SDF and the governments in Damascus and Ankara have different main goals. These goals are like "red lines." Thomas McGee, who studies Syria, said this. He explained that the goals are very different. He does not see a way for them to agree. This disagreement makes the integration difficult.

The Syrian Ministry of Defence said they told their soldiers to stop firing at the SDF. The SDF also said their units were told not to fight back. However, they had a similar agreement in April. This means these are temporary solutions. Some people think the SDF is trying to gain time. They believe it is not good for the SDF to move forward now.

The SDF controls a large area in northeast Syria. If they do not join the army, more fighting could happen. The current situation is not good. Neither side is making big changes. The peace in Aleppo is not very strong. It could be broken again.
