Sudan's Prime Minister, Kamil Idris, has given a new peace plan to the United Nations Security Council. The plan aims to stop the bad fighting that started in April 2023. The Prime Minister presented the plan on Monday. It has many ideas to reduce the fighting and help people.
The plan first asks for an immediate stop to the fighting. This is very important for peace. It also says the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) must leave some areas. After they leave, they will stay in camps to give up their weapons. This should make things safer. It will help with talking about politics and rebuilding the country. The Prime Minister also wants fair elections later. Some RSF soldiers who did not commit war crimes can join other groups.
However, the fighting is still happening. There is heavy fighting in the Kordofan States. The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) say they took back an important town. This fighting goes against the peace plan. It makes the problems for people worse. Many civilians are leaving their homes. They run from the fighting and lack of food and water. Heglig and el-Fasher are places with many displaced people.
The camps for these people are full. They do not have enough food, clean water, or medicine. People are very sad and have lost family members. The RSF took Heglig, which makes stopping the fighting harder.
The United Nations Security Council will help watch any ceasefire. They will also help the peace plan work. However, the big problems in Sudan are a challenge. The Prime Minister's plan will only work if both sides want to talk. If they do not try to talk, the plan may not stop the violence.
