Cyprus has strong wind and rain. The weather office has given a yellow warning. This warning is for Monday night and Tuesday morning. People can expect heavy rain, thunderstorms, and hail. Areas like the west and south coasts, inland places, and the Troodos mountains need to be very careful. A low-pressure system is causing this weather.
The thunderstorms will be strong and isolated. They can bring more than 35 millimetres of rain every hour. Hailstones might also fall. This can cause flooding. The Civil Defence has sent advice. They say to clean drains. They also say to secure things outside. People in areas that flood should move important things from basements. They should also not travel when it rains a lot.
Flooding can happen quickly in low areas. This is a real danger. People must be careful. They should protect their homes and stay safe. The Civil Defence warns people not to drive through flooded roads. They should also stay away from fallen power lines. It is not safe to be outside near trees or at sea. Strong winds and even tornadoes are possible.
The rain will continue for several days. It is expected to rain on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. There might be thunderstorms in the afternoons. Temperatures will be a little warmer than normal. Daytime temperatures will be around 18°C inland. They will be 20°C on the coast. The Troodos mountains will be colder. Night temperatures will be lower. Winds will be from the northeast to southeast.
