Cyprus Public Service Plans Big Changes

Cyprus public service will have big changes soon. These reforms start in early 2026. The Department of Public Administration and Personnel is leading this. They want to make work more modern for everyone. The goal is a flexible and adaptable workforce.

A main change is more teleworking. People will also have flexible working hours. This is a move away from old ways. Technology has changed how we work. Cyprus wants to use these new methods. This will make public jobs more efficient and attractive.

Teleworking will let eligible employees work from home. The department is preparing for this. They will provide laptops. A guide will explain teleworking rules. Training seminars may also happen. Staff will learn how to work well remotely.

To telework, jobs must be suitable for home. Employees need good internet. They also need one year in their current job. People must ask their manager. Approval depends on the job and the department. Some jobs, like shift work, cannot telework.

Flexible start times will also improve. The time to start work will be two hours. This is longer than before. People can start between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM. They will finish between 2:30 PM and 4:30 PM. This gives more control over schedules. It can help with work-life balance.

A bigger idea is to reduce daily work hours. Some employees might work up to two hours less. This could happen after February 2026. Departments will have time to adjust. The aim is a public service that listens to employees. This will help attract and keep good staff. It will also ensure good service for citizens.
