Attack on Artist's Home Sparks Outrage

An explosive device was thrown at the home of artist George Gabriel. This happened recently. Many people in art and society are very angry about this. It is thought to be a firecracker. This attack follows threats against Gabriel. These threats were about his art exhibition in Paphos. Now, a big protest is being planned. People worry about "fascism" and less freedom for artists.

The attack on Gabriel's home seems to be because of his paintings. His art often shows criticism of groups and national ideas. This made some people react with anger. Before the attack, the gallery showing his art stopped the exhibition. This was because of strong pressure and threats. However, this did not stop the violence.

The Turkish Cypriot Artists’ and Writers’ Union also condemned the attack. Tamer Öncül leads this group. He said it was an "act against art and free thought." He also stated it was an "attack against artistic freedom and human expression." This shows that Turkish Cypriots are also worried about the threats.

An organization called the "Alliance Against the Far-Right" is planning a protest. It will be on Monday, December 22nd. The protest will be at the Deputy Ministry of Culture. They want a "peaceful response" against fear and threats. They understand art can be criticized. But they say artists should not be silenced by violence. This event is important. It hopes to get public support against attacks on freedom.
