US Strikes ISIS After Soldier Deaths

The United States military attacked Islamic State (IS) areas in Syria. This happened after a deadly ambush. Two American soldiers and a translator died on December 13th. The attack was near Palmyra. The US operation was called "Operation Hawkeye Strike." It used over 100 bombs. More than 70 places were targeted. This shows the US wants to stop terrorist groups.

The strikes began on Friday afternoon. Fighter jets, helicopters, and artillery worked together. Planes from Jordan also joined the attack. This shows countries working together against terrorism. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth warned that attackers will be found. He said many enemies were killed. He also said these operations will continue.

Admiral Brad Cooper led "Operation Hawkeye Strike." The attacks hit important IS bases. They also targeted weapons storage. This was to hurt the group's ability to fight. The quick action likely weakened the Islamic State. US officials said many militants were killed.

Syria's government supports the US action. Their Ministry of Foreign Affairs said this on Saturday. Syria wants to fight IS too. They do not want IS to have safe places in Syria. Syria will also increase its own attacks on IS. Both countries want to stop the danger from extremist groups. Syria asked for more help from other countries.

US military officials think more actions may happen. If IS attacks Americans or allies again, more strikes could occur. Defense Secretary Hegseth sent a message to terrorists. He said attacks on Americans will have a fast and strong reply. The US is committed to fighting terrorism.
