Corruption Scandal at Fish Farm

A new report shows serious corruption. Permits for the "Land of Dreams" fish farm were given illegally. This happened in Trimiklini. Important rules were not followed. An investigation found that water was taken unfairly. This allowed people to abuse power. People do not trust the government now. Some officials might face criminal charges.

The report explains how a big farm got special treatment. It has been working since 2013. Rules were broken to get permits. A former Minister of Agriculture is involved. Two department heads also helped. They are accused of giving permits wrongly. Seven other workers are accused of hiding problems. They worked together to break the rules. The fish farm took water from a river.

It seems the farm was made legal quickly. Permits were given for a visit from a minister. This reason was called "absurd." It caused much anger. The local government in Limassol did nothing for a long time. They talked with the farm owner. They did not deal with the illegal actions. This continued for years.

An audit report in 2023 started this. It found many strange decisions. The Anti-Corruption Authority then looked into it. The authority believes the minister and department heads could be guilty. Other workers might lose their jobs. The report suggests that some workers followed orders to break rules.

This scandal shows corruption in government. The law was ignored for some people. The fish farm is still working. This shows the problem is big. The Attorney-General is thinking about a criminal case. This situation makes people lose faith in the government. It raises questions about honesty in Cyprus.
