Torrential rains have made the humanitarian crisis in Gaza much worse. Many displaced Palestinians now have even more difficult living conditions. Strong winds and rain damaged tents and shelters. This caused flooding and destroyed important supplies. The risk of serious illnesses has also increased, especially for children.
The bad weather has made difficult situations desperate. About one million people are living in tents and basic structures. These temporary homes offer little protection from the rain and wind. Water levels reached 15 centimetres in some areas. Over 40 shelters became unusable. Families had terrible experiences in their temporary homes.
A Unicef official saw widespread destruction. People used buckets to remove water from their tents. He said there was a lot of water and strong winds. The rain ruined belongings. Sadly, some people died. An infant died from cold. Eleven others died when buildings fell down.
The rain makes aid work harder. UN agencies like Unicef are trying to deliver supplies. However, the need is very big. Getting aid to Gaza is difficult. Not enough aid is reaching the area. This is very bad for families displaced many times. They must move again to escape the flooding.
The extreme weather has severe results. Being wet and cold increases the risk of illness. Young children are very vulnerable. Their shelters and belongings were destroyed. This is another problem for families. They have already lost their homes. The situation in Gaza needs more help.
