Cyprus will likely have the coldest night of winter. Temperatures will drop a lot across the island. The weather department warned about cold conditions. Snow and frost are possible in the mountains. This cold spell will be short. Warmer weather is expected soon.
A low-pressure system is causing this cold weather. It is the coldest time of winter so far. Inland, temperatures might reach 7°C. In the Troodos mountains, it could be as low as 2°C. Coastal areas will be cooler too, around 10°C. The highest mountains could get snow and frost.
Winds will also change. They will blow from the northwest to the northeast. Coastal winds will be strong, between force 4 and 5. This will make the sea a bit rough. Inland winds will be lighter, force 3 to 4. Tonight, the sky will be partly cloudy. Some rain might fall elsewhere.
However, this cold will not last long. From Wednesday, the weather will get better. A high-pressure system will bring clear skies. Temperatures will rise quickly. Inland areas could reach 18°C. Coastal places might see 19°C. Even the mountains will warm up to 6°C. Winds will stay strong.
Thursday will be clear and mild. Temperatures will be a bit higher than usual. But, the weather might change again by Friday. The sky could become partly cloudy. This means temperatures might vary. The cold night is followed by warm days. People should be careful of the cold now. Warmer weather is coming soon.
