Cyprus's health system has a big problem. There are not enough nurses. The Ministry of Health has warned a private hospital in Nicosia. The ministry might close the hospital. This is because there are not enough staff. Nursing unions disagree. They say bad management is the problem. They do not think there is a lack of nurses.
The Ministry of Health sent a warning in November. It is for a private hospital in the Gesy health service. The hospital did not have a nurse at night. It also needed six more nurses for surgery. The hospital has 15 days to explain. It must say why it should not lose its licence. This shows how hard it is to find enough staff. This has been difficult since Gesy started.
However, nursing unions like Pasynm disagree. They say the problem is not a lack of nurses. They blame "incompetent management." They also say there is no good planning. Unions are angry. They point to long waits for medical care. Nurses also have to take sick leave. This shows the system is stressed. They ask why there are shortages. Is it new hospitals or old services being too busy?
The unions are also worried about nurses from outside the EU. They think this could lower patient care quality. It might also make working conditions worse for current nurses. Talking well is very important for patient safety. They say Gesy added many hospital beds. But there was not enough planning or staff development. This mistake causes big problems now.
The Employers and Industrialists’ Federation is also talking. Their view is not fully known yet. The Nicosia hospital problem shows issues in Cyprus's health system. Gesy wants more people to have healthcare. But the system cannot find enough staff. Closing a hospital licence is worrying. It shows the system is weak. We must fix these problems. The hospital must respond soon. The nation waits for a solution. Patient health is at risk.
