Cyprus and Israel Boost Defence Ties

Cyprus and Israel recently had important defence and security talks. These meetings happened in Israel. They want to work together more for peace in their region. Cypriot Defence Minister Vasilis Palmas met with Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz. They discussed new ways to cooperate. They also shared ideas about security now.

Cyprus will lead the European Union Council in 2026. It will use this chance to promote unity. Cyprus also wants stronger partnerships in the region. A main goal for Cyprus will be to improve its relationship with Israel. It will encourage talks for lasting peace.

Cyprus is also getting a new air defence system. It is called Barak MX. Israel is supplying this system. It will help Cyprus stop many aerial threats. The system is being delivered in parts. It should be fully ready by the end of this year. This makes Cyprus much safer.

Minister Palmas also visited a centre in Gaza. This was separate from the defence talks. The centre helps with humanitarian aid. It shows Cyprus is helping in the region.

The ministers talked about security problems. They looked at how to make their defence partnerships stronger. This shows they have common interests. They need to work together on threats. The defence relationship between Cyprus and Israel is growing. The Barak MX system is a good example. It gives Cyprus new technology. It also helps them work better with allies. Cyprus's stronger defence ties will help its role in the region.
