Nobel Winner Narges Mohammadi Arrested in Iran

Narges Mohammadi, who won the Nobel Peace Prize, has been arrested. Many people around the world are unhappy about this. She is 53 years old and known for her work for women's rights. She also fights for human rights in Iran. Reports say she was taken by police last week. Her family says she was hurt badly during the arrest.

The Narges Foundation spoke for Mohammadi. They said police attacked her with batons. They hit her head and neck many times. About fifteen police officers were there. Some used clubs. Mohammadi needed to go to the hospital twice. This makes people worry about her health.

Iranian officials have a different story. They say she was arrested because of things she said. She spoke at a public meeting on Friday. This was the same day she was arrested. The meeting was for a human rights lawyer who recently died. His death was called suspicious. The government's reason is very different. It does not match what her supporters say.

Mohammadi has been in trouble with the law before. She spent many years in prison for her activism. She has been in prison since 2021. She has a 13-year sentence. This is for spreading "propaganda" and working against national security. She was let out of prison for a short time last year for health reasons. Now she is arrested again.

People who care about human rights are very concerned. The Nobel Committee wants her to be freed right away. Many famous people are also asking for her release. They want her mistreatment to stop.

Mohammadi is a strong symbol of fighting for what is right. She keeps going even though she is in danger. Her arrest puts her health at risk. It also shows how difficult it is for human rights defenders in Iran. The world is waiting for Iran to let her go.
