Mountain Rescue Successful for Two Teenagers

A difficult mountain rescue ended well on Sunday. Two 18-year-old men were saved. They were stuck in a dangerous gorge near Lagoudera. A call for help came at 3:10 PM. The event showed the dangers of nature. It also showed how well different emergency groups can work together.

The two young men were hiking. They got lost in the mountains. Then, they were trapped in a deep ravine. They could not get out without help. The Fire Service got their urgent call. They quickly sent teams. Many agencies worked together to solve the problem.

Firefighters from Nicosia were the first to arrive. They brought special rescue teams. They drove to the difficult location. The Fire Service talked to the trapped men. They gave them updates and comfort. The men were in a very hard place to reach. It needed a long climb up.

Because the place was so hard, the Police were asked to send a helicopter. They hoped the helicopter could reach the men quickly. However, the gorge had rough land and many trees. The helicopter could not get to the exact spot.

So, the rescue team decided to use a ground plan. The Fire Service's special unit, EMAK, is very good at rescues. A team from EMAK followed the path the men had taken. They carefully walked through the difficult land. They planned to reach the men by walking and by climbing down the steep sides.

The rescue teams brought warm clothes for the teenagers. Climbing down into the gorge took a lot of time and skill. The EMAK team worked very hard. After a long effort, they reached the two young men.

The teenagers were brought out of the ravine safely. They were taken to Kyperounta Hospital. Doctors checked them carefully. Both men were healthy. This was a great success for the rescue teams. The Fire Service spokesman, Andreas Ketis, said the rescue was good. He thanked all the groups for their help. This event reminds us to be prepared. It shows how important emergency services are.
