Moldova President Visits Cyprus for Stronger Ties

Moldova's President Maia Sandu just finished an important visit to Cyprus. This was a historic meeting. It was the first visit between the two presidents in over twenty years. The goal was to make their countries' relationship stronger. Cyprus is also an ally in the European Union.

The visit started with official ceremonies. There was a military welcome and both national songs were played. President Sandu visited a monument for Archbishop Makarios III. Later, she had important talks with President Nikos Christodoulides. Their teams joined them. They discussed working together more in areas like law, schools, and travel.

Experts think this meeting is very smart. Cyprus will lead the Council of the EU next year. This gives them a lot of power in the EU. Moldova became a candidate for the EU in 2022. It needs support from EU countries. President Christodoulides said Cyprus will always support Moldova's EU goals.

People think Cyprus supports Moldova because Moldova follows EU foreign policy. Moldova also joined sanctions against Russia. President Sandu is hopeful about Cyprus leading the EU. She has big hopes for this time. Both countries want similar things from the EU.

This new partnership is important for Moldova's EU plans. It also makes Cyprus more important in EU discussions about new members. The visit fixed a long gap in diplomacy. It has created a good start for their future relationship.
