Zelenskyy Discusses US Proposal on Donetsk Withdrawal

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy shared a controversial idea from the United States. The US suggested Ukraine's army should leave its current places in the eastern Donetsk region. Ukraine sees this as a dangerous step. It could be a one-sided agreement. This news shows how difficult talks are to end the war. It also shows different ideas between Ukraine and its main helper, the US.

A US group of important people gave this idea. They want a safe area without soldiers in land Ukraine controls. This area would be a special economic zone. This is part of talks to stop fighting. President Zelenskyy said Ukraine sent its own peace plan to the US. This plan has many points. It also has papers about future safety and rebuilding after the war. These are important for Ukraine's talks.

Russia wants Ukraine to give up parts of Donetsk. Russia says it took these lands. Ukraine's soldiers are defending about one-fifth of the region. The US plan would mean leaving these areas. The plan hopes Russia would stop moving forward. President Zelenskyy is not sure about this. He said changing land is about his country's freedom. The people must decide this with a vote.

"The last part is the hardest," President Zelenskyy said. He spoke about how talks can fail. He asked why only Ukraine must move back. He worries Russia could use the empty space. This could help Russia, not bring peace. The words used are also a problem. A "special economic zone" is different from Russia's "demilitarised zone."

Experts think the US wants the war to end fast. The war affects the world economy and safety. However, this shows a possible problem in the alliance. Ukraine wants strong safety promises. It does not want to give up land first. How to control the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant is also difficult. The problem with the Donetsk area shows big challenges for peace. Ukraine must protect its freedom. The future depends on finding common ground.
