Larnaca is European Capital of Culture 2030

Larnaca has won a big award. It is now the European Capital of Culture for 2030. This was announced by the Deputy Ministry of Culture in Cyprus. Many people in Larnaca were very happy. They celebrated in the streets.

A group of twelve experts looked at the cities. Larnaca and Limassol were the final two cities. The experts visited both cities. They also heard presentations from each city. Then, they chose Larnaca. Larnaca will share this title with a city in Latvia.

Larnaca had a good plan for culture. Their proposal was called "Common Ground". It showed they can do great cultural events. They also want to help the city grow in a good way. Larnaca will get €1.5 million from the European Commission. This money is for preparing the events.

A person from the Ministry said this is a "historic milestone". They said it will show Larnaca's history. It will also help the city with culture, society, and money. People are very proud. They sang and danced in the streets.

This award will help Larnaca a lot. More people will know about the city. More tourists may come to see cultural events. The city will develop its culture for ten years. They will plan many shows and projects. Paphos was Capital of Culture in 2017. It had good results. Experts will watch Larnaca's progress. They want to make sure the city does well.
