Extreme weather events are becoming more dangerous. Recent floods in Asia killed many people and forced others from their homes. These floods were made worse by climate change. At the same time, a big winter storm hit Gaza. This storm flooded camps where people already live. These problems show that climate change is a big danger now.
A study looked at heavy rain and storms in Asia. These happened in Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Scientists found that warming of the planet made the rain much stronger. This warming comes from burning fossil fuels. In Sri Lanka, heavy rain is now much more powerful than before.
Dr. Sarah Kew, a lead scientist, said these storms are not normal. She said that monsoon rains are expected, but not so strong. Two cyclones caused floods. The water was very deep. Over 1,750 people died. Hundreds are still missing. Professor Lalith Rajapakse called it a "new reality."
These disasters have many bad results. Millions of people are affected. Poor communities suffer the most. They lose homes and jobs. Experts think more people will get sick. Medical supplies are also damaged. In Sumatra, cutting down trees made the floods worse.
In Gaza, climate and conflict created another problem. A strong winter storm called Byron hit the area. It flooded camps in Rafah. The UN said many people were at risk. Families were stuck in wet tents. Rescue workers had trouble helping because they could not get supplies.
These events show two important things. First, global warming makes rain heavier. This turns normal weather into deadly events. Second, existing problems like poverty and conflict make people more vulnerable. As the Earth gets warmer, the world's most vulnerable people are at greater risk. We need to act fast on climate change. We also need better ways to help people during disasters.
