The new leader of a major opposition party in northern Cyprus believes early elections are necessary. Sila Usar Incirli, the first woman to lead the Republican Turkish Party (CTP), says her party is ready for new elections. They want to use public unhappiness and a recent presidential election win to their advantage.
Incirli said this in an interview. The CTP gained support after their former leader won the presidential election. Incirli thinks this win should lead to new parliamentary elections. She believes the current government cannot solve the country's problems.
She described a bad economic and social situation. This is made worse by a lack of government honesty. Incirli feels the ruling party has lost people's trust. She thinks they are staying in power until 2027. However, the CTP wants elections in early 2026. They will use official methods and public support.
"People expect the CTP to lead," Incirli stated. She believes early elections are unavoidable. She said the party is prepared. The CTP promises justice and unity if they win. This is different from the current government.
A recent poll shows the CTP could win over 42% of votes. This would be their first time in power since 2019. They might even win a majority alone. This has never happened before in their history.
This political move will cause arguments. The CTP will criticize the government's budget. They are also working with unions and businesses. They want to put pressure on the ruling parties.
If the CTP wins early elections, it will change politics. It could also affect talks about reuniting Cyprus. The main question now is when people will vote again.
