Cyprus, an island in a good location, has a new chance for peace. Leaders from the Greek and Turkish Cypriot sides will meet the UN envoy this week. This important meeting is planned for Thursday. It gives people hope for restarting peace talks.

The UN envoy, María Angela Holguin, has been working hard. She met with both leaders separately. Her goal is to see if real peace talks can start again. Peace talks have been stuck since 2017.

Holguin is taking a careful approach. Before the main meeting, negotiators will talk. They will try to agree on small steps. They are discussing ways to build trust. For example, they want to fix problems at a busy crossing point. This crossing shows how the island is divided.

Both leaders will visit a place that helps find missing people. This shows they care about the people affected by the past. The European Union is also interested in peace. Their envoy is working with Holguin.

Thursday's meeting is very important for Cyprus. The Greek Cypriot side wants it to be a starting point for new talks. They also want other countries to join these talks soon. Holguin will visit Turkey and Greece. She wants to see if a date can be set for a bigger meeting.

Holguin said she is encouraged by the talks. She hopes the meeting will be useful and bring good results. The success depends on the leaders. It also depends on their ability to unite their people. The world is watching to see if Cyprus can start a new chapter of talks or stay divided.
