Dual-National Detained at Larnaca Under European Arrest Warrant

A man with Ukrainian and Israeli passports was arrested at Larnaca Airport. Cypriot police arrested him during a passport check. This happened because Estonia asked for his arrest. He is now in prison while Estonia tries to bring him to their country.

The arrest is part of a big police investigation in Estonia. Estonia believes the man is part of a criminal group. They issued a warrant for his arrest about a month ago. The European Arrest Warrant helps EU countries work together. It means Cyprus must help Estonia with this request.

A court in Cyprus decided to keep the man in custody. Estonia has until December 11th to send all the necessary papers. This is important so the man knows the exact charges against him.

The next step depends on the man's choice. He will tell the court if he agrees to go to Estonia quickly. If he agrees, he could be sent there in two weeks. However, if he disagrees, a longer court process will start in Cyprus. Judges will check if everything is correct before he can be sent away.

This arrest shows that European police systems work well. They can catch people across borders quickly. For the man, this is the start of a difficult legal fight. The outcome will show how well EU countries protect rights and catch criminals. Everyone is waiting for his decision.
