UK Warship Arrives in Cyprus After Drone Attack

The powerful warship HMS Dragon has arrived in Cyprus. This ship is a Type 45 destroyer. Its arrival increases the United Kingdom's military strength in the Eastern Mediterranean. This is a response to problems in the region. A drone recently attacked a British air base in Cyprus. HMS Dragon will soon start working with Cyprus's defence forces. This shows the UK supports its territories and allies.

HMS Dragon is very good at defending against air attacks. It has special missile systems and radar. The ship arrived just weeks after the drone attack at RAF Akrotiri. This attack was a big reason for the UK's quick action. About 500 extra soldiers have also come to British bases in Cyprus. They will help with air defence. More soldiers and better air defence will make Cyprus safer.

The UK is also sending helicopters to Cyprus. There are two Wildcat helicopters and one Merlin helicopter. These helicopters can watch areas, gather information, and fight submarines. This military movement is part of a bigger plan. Another ship, RFA Lyme Bay, also sailed from Gibraltar to Cyprus. All these military ships and aircraft show the UK is working to keep the region safe.

British pilots have flown many hours in the region. They have flown over 700 hours for current conflicts. RAF and Navy pilots have flown almost 900 hours to help defend Cyprus and other countries. This is the most flying activity in the area for 15 years. It shows the security situation is serious.

The UK has warned Iran not to attack its bases again. The British Foreign Secretary sent a direct message to Iran. The UK is also allowing the United States to use its bases for attacks on Iran. The UK is working with France and Greece. This shows they are united against actions that cause problems. Defence Secretary John Healey said, "HMS Dragon has arrived." Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said, "Cyprus' security is important to the UK."
