Cyprus Plans New Housing Fund and Council

Lawmakers in Cyprus have made two important proposals. They want to create a permanent Housing Policy Fund. They also want to start a Unified Housing Policy Council. The main goal is to have steady money for housing projects. This money will come from a small tax on some deals. This is happening before important elections.

Parliamentary elections are in May 2026. Recent polls show voters are changing their minds. The two main parties are not as strong as before. The political scene is now more divided. This creates challenges and chances for all parties.

Polls show a very close race for first place. The Democratic Rally (DISY) and the Restorative Party of the Working People (AKEL) are neck and neck. There is also a close fight for fourth place. This shows that smaller parties are becoming more important. About fifteen percent of voters are still undecided. They could change the election result, especially in Nicosia.

Panayiotis Panayiotou, who leads Pulse Market Research, said AKEL has gained more support recently. He called the race for first place a very tough battle. The economy is also affecting what people think. Central banks around the world are trying to control rising prices. They do not want to stop the economy from growing.

The new Housing Policy Fund will give stable money for housing in Cyprus. This could help the housing market. The Housing Policy Council will help make housing plans better. These new ideas will be affected by the election results.
