Cyprus Farmers Protest Animal Culling

Farmers in Cyprus are very unhappy. They will march to the presidential palace this Saturday. This is a protest against new rules. The rules say farmers must kill animals because of a disease. Farmers say their animals are healthy. They want to know about money for their losses. They also want to change how animals are tested.

Veterinary officials are making farmers kill animals. Farmers think this is too much. They say it hurts their jobs. The protest starts at 10 am at GSP stadium. Then, they will go to the presidential palace at 11 am. Their message is clear: "stop killing our animals."

Farmers do not believe the current testing is right. They are worried about vaccinated animals. They think the tests might not be correct. Farmers want to test their animals in other labs. This would show if their animals are truly sick.

There have been problems recently. Farmers blocked roads in Larnaca. This stopped officials from testing animals. In Yeri, a farmer stopped officials from entering his farm. Police had to help. However, officials said there are no new disease cases. This did not make farmers feel better.

Farmers are very sad and worried. One farmer said, "If you destroy my mind, what will happen to us?" This shows the emotional pain. It is more than just losing money. Farmers also started a campaign. It is called "the people who feed you." They want public support. The situation in Cyprus is tense. The future of farming is uncertain.
